Acadia National Park

We have been planning to visit this place since we moved to this place.. Finally, we booked a place here - Acadia Pines Motel - and are planning to go on the trip between Oct 9-11, 2009. We are excited to see the fall colors in peak and the sunrise (maybe the sunset too!) at the Cadillac summit (supposed to be the highest peak on the easter seaboard!). Blue Mountain Lake - Central Adirondacks

Our agenda was to get to Blue Mountain Lake and do the small hike up to the Castle Rock Summit to get a view of the Blue Mountain Lake. The drive from our house through the foothills of Adirondacks didn’t show that the fall colors had peaked, but once we went past Warrensburg and the elevation started to increase, we could see colors changing gradually. Gore Mountain had spectacular views, but past that were colors even more gorgeous and vibrant! Further on the way, we passed a few lakes with spectacular foliage in the foreground and background - Adirondack Lake, Lake Durant and Lake Abanakee dam. Okay, the hike was only for about ~1.5miles one-way. We didn’t really pay attention to the height or the elevation (2430’) that we had to climb across that ‘short’ hike. Boy, did we underestimate! El Chalten & Buenos Aires, Argentina (April 2026)

El Calafate and Perito Moreno Glacier – We checked out from a hotel in Puerto Natalas, Chile and got onto a bus ride to El Calafate on the Argentina side. The bus ride was quite peaceful going through the border and immigration. The landscape of the arid regions of Patagonia would question what kind of living beings can sustain in these places. Of course, Guanacos galore! As we approached El Calafate, we started seeing the mountains and the Lago Argentina in the foreground from quite a distance away. After checking into the hotel, El Calafate Parque Hotel , we took a stroll around that neat little town and took a quick bite as late lunch. As it is a touristy town, there were quite many eateries and souvenir stores but finding a proper vegetarian place was a challenge. Next day, we rented a car and drove to Perito Moreno Glacier which is about couple of hours from the hotel. Italy (March 2025)

Our week in Italy flew past like a dream! Plenty travel videos showed crowded places but even in the crowds, the charm of Italy is not lost. Alberobello and Matera offered unique characters in the quieter corners of Puglia region along the Adriatic Sea. A short day-trip from Rome to Pompeii and Amalfi Coast was worth visiting as a teaser for another trip. Rome and Vatican with its history needed more than 2 days we were able to spend. Wandering the ancient maze of Matera From the Bari Airport, the drive to Matera started with a drenching rain in some areas along the way. Just the week before, we read about Matera getting flooded by torrential rains. So, we kept our fingers crossed about our sojourn at Matera and didn’t have much hopes. As we drove closer to Matera the glistening rays of sun peeking from the clouds gave us some hope! MET Museum

Sept 5th, 2009 Trip to MET - We wanted to visit museums and spend some unplanned time in NYC for sometime. Came across this Museums on Us by Bank of America, which included free admission to some museums on the first weekend of every month. It worked out well for this labor day weekend and we decided to got to MET along with Raji's friends from Philly. Parked our car in Journal Sq and took the PATH and Metro to reach 86th street and walked couple of blocks to reach MET. Headed straight to Cafetaria :) Had good pricey food. Controlled our temptation to have a nap (!?) in the nearby Central Park and strolled through the museum.. Of all the pieces, we have to mention our appreciation of the Modern Art section! Man, do they put thoughts in modern art in the name of art! I will leave it at that... Real highlight was a supposedly first painting of Michelangelo . Utah Mighty 5 National Parks (June 2025)

Exploring Utah’s Mighty 5 Our trip to the mighty 5 National Parks of Utah started in Salt Lake City. First stop was at Moab. Right at the junction of UT191 and I70 is a rest area with a wonderful 360 view of that vast expanse that gave a glimpse of the arid atmosphere we will be invited to at Arches and Canyonland. It was dinner time when we reached Moab and found Sultan’s Mediterranean Grill right at the entrance of the Moab for a delicious vegetarian dinner. Arches National Park - Hiking Among Nature’s Sculptures This is a relatively small park in area and hence the entrance in peak periods is being restricted with advanced booking for entering between 7 AM and 4 PM. Since we didn’t have advanced booking, we started early and entered the park before 7 AM. It was rather a good weather in 60s for the time of the year and there weren’t any large number of cars lined up, but there was a steady stream of vehicles entering.
