Blue Mountain Lake - Central Adirondacks

Our agenda was to get to Blue Mountain Lake and do the small hike up to the Castle Rock Summit to get a view of the Blue Mountain Lake. The drive from our house through the foothills of Adirondacks didn’t show that the fall colors had peaked, but once we went past Warrensburg and the elevation started to increase, we could see colors changing gradually. Gore Mountain had spectacular views, but past that were colors even more gorgeous and vibrant! Further on the way, we passed a few lakes with spectacular foliage in the foreground and background - Adirondack Lake, Lake Durant and Lake Abanakee dam. Okay, the hike was only for about ~1.5miles one-way. We didn’t really pay attention to the height or the elevation (2430’) that we had to climb across that ‘short’ hike. Boy, did we underestimate! El Chalten & Buenos Aires, Argentina (April 2026)

El Calafate and Perito Moreno Glacier – We checked out from a hotel in Puerto Natalas, Chile and got onto a bus ride to El Calafate on the Argentina side. The bus ride was quite peaceful going through the border and immigration. The landscape of the arid regions of Patagonia would question what kind of living beings can sustain in these places. Of course, Guanacos galore! As we approached El Calafate, we started seeing the mountains and the Lago Argentina in the foreground from quite a distance away. After checking into the hotel, El Calafate Parque Hotel , we took a stroll around that neat little town and took a quick bite as late lunch. As it is a touristy town, there were quite many eateries and souvenir stores but finding a proper vegetarian place was a challenge. Next day, we rented a car and drove to Perito Moreno Glacier which is about couple of hours from the hotel. MET Museum

Sept 5th, 2009 Trip to MET - We wanted to visit museums and spend some unplanned time in NYC for sometime. Came across this Museums on Us by Bank of America, which included free admission to some museums on the first weekend of every month. It worked out well for this labor day weekend and we decided to got to MET along with Raji's friends from Philly. Parked our car in Journal Sq and took the PATH and Metro to reach 86th street and walked couple of blocks to reach MET. Headed straight to Cafetaria :) Had good pricey food. Controlled our temptation to have a nap (!?) in the nearby Central Park and strolled through the museum.. Of all the pieces, we have to mention our appreciation of the Modern Art section! Man, do they put thoughts in modern art in the name of art! I will leave it at that... Real highlight was a supposedly first painting of Michelangelo . Santiago & Torres Del Paine National Park, Chile (April 2026)

Our trip to Patagonia was a much anticipated one, but the experience was quite different from our previous trips. We were expecting it to be quite different from our other trips as the region we planned to go is more rugged and more remote, spanning regions in Chile and Argentina with tall peaks of jagged mountains almost at the edge of the world. We looked forward to hikes in those arid regions surrounded by mountains, glaciers and glacial lakes. The videos we saw before the trip had upped our expectations and eagerness that we needed to temper our expectations owing to the unpredictable wild weather patterns and frequent winds with up to 60kmph in that portion of Patagonia. We started with the ~11hr flight from JFK, landed in Santiago, Chile and had some time to spend there before heading south. Northern California Trip (June 2017)

Though we have been living in the country for a while, haven’t really planned a good long vacation in California. We’ve been meaning to see the giant trees, lush green valleys of Yosemite and scenic Pacific coast, we kept postponing for several reasons. In a way, it was good that we didn’t plan there in the last 5 years though. The drought struck California and its effect on Yosemite waterfalls was so evident from the pictures. Luckily, the rains and snow during the last year had made the valley to come back! Day 1 (San Francisco): We started off in San Francisco and quickly drove away from the city after a day. The day that we spent in the city was a bit disappointing because of the heavy fog engulfing the Golden Gate Bridge. It was so bad that we could not see bridge even from a distance of about 100ft! Well, it wasn’t atypical for Golden Gate Bridge and we weren’t lucky enough to beat that. Downtown San Francisco had  lot  of things to offer - food,  road-side ...
