Delphi and Pratt's Falls County Park (May 2021)

Delphi Falls (Madison County)

We went to Delphi Falls that is about 30 min away, also in the Cazenovia area. On the way, we stopped by the Lakeland Park Pier located on the shore of the Cazeonovia Lake. It was a beautiful picnic spot and hardly anyone was there, being a weekday it was.

Delphi Falls is located in a county maintained area. Madison County had acquired this area only in 2014 and this was opened to public only recently since 2018. So, it is a relatively new park that is still being developed. It was also evident from lack of direction/signs until you reach the park entrance. When we reached the park, there was one other family that was also getting ready to leave. We had the falls for ourselves for quite a bit of time. It was such a serene atmosphere especially in the solitude that we were able to enjoy it in.

Here again, the cloudy skies made it extra special. With the view of the falls, we had our lunch inside our car and left for our next destination.

Pratts Falls Park (Onondoga County)

Pratts Falls Park seemed like a much bigger area than the Delphi Falls. This is also maintained by a Country administration – Onondoga County – and with a small scenic pond and plenty of parking spaces indicated that this could be a popular picnic spot for the locals. What appeared like a pond was actually overflowing into a stream that actually made the falls.

From atop there is a falls overview and there is a small trail from behind the information center that leads to a viewpoint mid-way of the falls. The trail leads through a thickly wooded area providing for a jungle feeling with the sound of the falls all the way and making its appearance from behind the wooded area.

There is another longer trail (blue trail) that seemed to go all the way to the bottom of the falls, but we didn’t take that trail. There is information that the falling water’s energy was harvested to run the first mill of Onondoga County in the year 1796.
