Jaswant Singh and his book

I am appalled to see the reaction to his book. I will state this - I HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK, YET.

Why did BJP expel him? What is BJP scared off? Jaswant wasn't trying to appease any religion or sect. Why shouldn't he have a freedom to interpret the facts the way he wanted? If you are a member of a Political Party, shouldn't you have your own opinion or takes on things? Should you subscribe your life and allegiance to a doctrine of the party like a dictatorship? Is this freedom of speech? Is this democracy? Should we take pride in being a citizen of the so-called 'largest' democracy in the world? I am just glad that he was not jailed! Even Nehru (Congress) Party doesn't seem to react that much! What is wrong in expressing some opinion and bringing some transparency to age-old facts?

British did a great job of sowing seeds of separatism as a strategy (just like they did elsewhere). What a cunning strategy that they used to turn the attention from them and to fight among ourselves! Its been 60+ years and still we are fighting and killing each other. There is a reason why some nations are called 'advanced' and some are called 'developing' even after decades of independence! When are we going to 'advance' our thinking and stop bikkering at trivial things?? Don't we have better issues to argue and disagree about than this one book by one person?!

There is a reason why China can openly express its strategy (I couldn't find a better link on the entire article) on how to divide a unified India! If we do not have the guts to face our own facts and our differing opinions in a constructive way, how are we going to present a unified response to an external force? Why can't we have open debates about things happened decades ago? I like the last sentence in this blog.

Let alone books, there can't even be a movie based on real events, even for entertainment sake! I am sure a movie about a clandestine affairs between Nehru and Lady Mountbatten would be a commercial success. Why can't we make a movie like that?!? About Nethaji? Above Rajiv Killing? Did USA lose its value by movies like JFK and Conspiracy Theory? RK Selvamani's movie based on Rajiv killing never made it to screens in more than a decade! We can only make movies about mythology and things that happened 1000 yrs ago like Raja Raja Chozhan and Ashoka the great, for reasons beyond my grasp!

(Added 8/24/09 after Karan Thapar's interview: By specifically omitting a relevant issue (first war between India and Pakistan), did Jaswant Singh have any ulterior motive in eulogising Jinnah?!?)
